Dr. Jerry Sellon, owner, has been a part of Dr. Weldy’s Associates since 1975. He grew up on a horse/cattle ranch in Eastern Colorado before graduating from Colorado State University in 1974. His career has a long list of service to organized veterinary medicine through the following organizations AAEP (constant member since 1974,) AABP, AVMA, IVMA, and the Michiana VMA.
He and his wife, Candi, live in rural Goshen They have two married sons and three grandchildren.

Dr. Wanda Schmeltz graduated with her B.S. in Agriculture and D.V.M from Purdue University and has been at Dr. Weldy’s since 1986. She has strong interests in food animal, equine, and companion animal medicine and surgery. She resides with her dairy farmer husband, Gary, and daughter, Olivia, on a 90 acre farm near Wyatt along with three German Shorthair Pointers, a Blue Heeler, and “Turbo” the dachshund. Having been past president of the Michiana Veterinary Medical Association, she also as memberships in IVMA, AVMA, and IAEP.

Dr. Wade Hammond, is a 1996 graduate of Kansas State University. He practiced for a year and a half in a mixed practice before joining Dr. Weldy’s Associates in 1998. His emphasis is general equine medicine and surgery with special interests in reproduction, lameness, and dentistry. Additionally, he has completed a certification course in veterinary acupuncture from IVAS and is currently offering acupuncture therapies in both equine and small animal patients.

Dr. Brendon Cawood is a graduate of the Veterinary College at Purdue University. He works primarily with large animals on the farm.

Dr. Justin Sellon graduated Purdue University Veterinary School in 2007. His professional interests are small animal surgery including orthopedics and soft tissue. He also enjoys mixed animal practice including large animals and exotics. He grew up in Wakarusa and attended Northwood High School. He now resides in Nappanee with his wife Mandy, and daughters Stella and Ava.

Dr Kathryn Ernst grew up in Savannah, Georgia where she fell in love with horses. She then moved to Athens to attend the University of Georgia for both her undergraduate and veterinary degrees. She enjoys working with all of the large animal species as well as dogs and cats. When not working, Dr. Ernst enjoys riding her horse, Sadie and running with her dog Bindi.

Dr. Jolene Birney is the newest member of the Dr. Weldy's team joining the practice in June of 2010. Dr. Jolene Birney was born and raised a small town in Oregon, where she lived on a small dairy farm. She moved to Michigan with her family in 1995, when her father took a position at Andrews University Dairy Farm in Berrien Springs, Michigan. Dr. Birney majored in Animal Science at Andrews University while working at the AU Dairy. She received her DVM at Michigan State University in May 2010. She enjoys working on all species of animals from cats to cows (and even the occasional tiger or elephant at the traveling circus!). Her personal pets include a dog, three cats and a coop full of chickens.
